The show opens with (Sophie Turner) in a hotel room, slowly transforming into another character, applying makeup and donning jewelry, revealing her scarred back. Now, four months prior, Joan has changed her blonde hair for a more vibrant look, wearing a casual style. She makes dinner for her daughter, Kelly, who spells her name in spaghetti. Outside, the neighbor sings a happy birthday tune. Joan tells Kelly that Gary will collect her. Gary takes Kelly on a dangerous leap around Solent Road.
Kelly feels infinite in their gloomy home, and Joan cuddles up to her quietly in bed. The next morning, Gary rushes off, saying he needs time away. During an argument, he becomes physical with Joan before leaving
Joan ends up at a pub, chatting with a man who buys her a drink. She confesses she’s a burglar, and he lectures her. The next morning, she finds a note requesting payment for the drinks. Hungover, she searches for her hidden diamonds after drinking oil-gin mix.
Joan takes the jewels to Hannington Antiques to show Boisie, seeking immediate payment. Unsatisfied, he scrutinizes her life, offering her a new opportunity. Joan insists on payment and Boisie offers her a drink, believing in her worth. Their encounter remains dangerous.
