Five years after “Game of Thrones” wrapped up, Kit Harington is reflecting on his pivotal role as Jon Snow while embarking on new projects. Despite his earlier comments about a potential continuation being shelved, Harington has transitioned to a clearer realm of acting with his new role in HBO’s “Industry,” which has just launched its third season.
In an in-depth GQ interview, Harington discussed the mixed reception of “Game of Thrones” finale and the challenges faced during the show’s concluding chapters. He expressed his complex feelings about the series’ end, noting, “When I started, everyone loved Thrones; by the end, it seemed like everyone had turned against it.”

The series, adapted from George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, had a strong foundation in the early seasons. However, the latter part of the show had to create an ending based on Martin’s notes before the fully published material.
This led to criticisms of the final seasons. The rushed storytelling was a common critique, as the show seemed to speed towards its conclusion without adequately preparing its audience for the ending.
Conleth Hill, who portrayed Varys, publicly expressed his disappointment with how his character was handled, stating that the abruptness of Varys’s death left him feeling unsatisfied. Harington, reflecting on these critiques, agrees that the final seasons felt rushed.
However, he attributes this to the intense nature of the production. He shared, “If there was any issue with the ending of ‘Thrones,’ it was that we were all so incredibly exhausted. We just couldn’t have continued for additional seasons. I look back at pictures from that final season and I see how worn out I looked. We were all drained and had reached our limit.”
Despite the divisive ending, the world of Westeros continues to evolve. “House of the Dragon,” a prequel series, has wrapped up its inaugural season and is set to continue with two more seasons. Additionally, another spinoff, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” is scheduled to premiere in 2025, promising new stories and adventures within the expansive realm of “Game of Thrones.”
